Hamza Al-Mustapha launches NGO for Peace and Unity in Nigeria

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to ex-Head of State, Late General Sani Abacha has launched a platform known as the Al-Mustapha Peace, Unity and Development Initiative which he seeks to use to promote peace in Nigeria, especially in the North.

The former prime suspect in the assassination case of late MKO Abiola's wife, Kudirat Abiola, who was let off the hook in June 2013, is currently on a nationwide tour soliciting the support of eminent members of the society.

He was recently in Warri Delta state where he paid a courtesy call on the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. He solicited the advise of Oritsejafor on how to stop the tide of the Boko Haram in the North. He also said some people are investing in the Boko Haram insurgents and were sponsoring a propaganda against him and his current efforts.

Federal government increases passport fee by 50%

The Federal Government has increased passport fee by 50%. According to a circular signed by the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Operations/Passport and released a few days ago titled 'Passport Reforms', applicants will now pay N15,000 instead of N10,000. (It was officially N10,000 but we all know how much we really paid...lol) Also applicants for change of data will pay now N30,000.

A newly introduced 64-page passport for frequent travelers will cost N20,000, while Passport for applicants 18 years and below will cost N8,750. It's N15,000 between 18-60 and N8,500 for people above 60 years.

Female applicants, who apply for change of name as a result of marriage/divorce or deceased spouse, will pay N8,750, while processing fee for request for change of data will cost N30,000.

All payments will be made online going forward according to the circular

After 9 weeks, 9 episodes and beating 12 other African model hopefuls for the crown, Ugandan model Aamito Stacie Lagum emerged the winner of the 1st Cycle ofAfrica’s Next Top Model, created by Oluchi Orlandi.

The competition which was filmed in South Africa for a period of 10 weeks, had its finale in New York where out of three finalists – Aamito of Uganda, Michaela of Angola and Opeyemi of Nigeria – Aamito was crowned the first winner of ANTM.

Following her win, it is only normal to wonder about the model’s experience in the course of the show leading up to her win, and what’s next for her.

In an interview with BN Style, Aamito dishes on her ANTM journey, what winning the ANTM means to her and what’s next for her.

Tell us about AamitoI am an only child, raised by a single mother. I still live with my mum however my dad and I have a strong bond; it’s kind of telepathic…I don’t have to tell him that I need his help, he just knows. It’s that strong.

I started modeling in 2008 with an agency called Arapapa. But of course my breakthrough has been winning ANTM.

What inspired you to compete for Africa’s Next Top Model?Some of my friends sent me SMSs to go for the auditions in Nairobi but I didn’t make up my mind until 2 days to the audition. I was inspired by the fact that my friends had faith in me and they told me I could go far in the competition.

Nollywood superstar Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde arrived in Ghana for a visit to Ghandour Cosmetics Ltd. She was recently announced as the face of BO-16, a hair relaxer and hair care range for the Ghanaian company.

Ugandan tabloid publish names of 200 prominent homosexuals

Just a day after the Ugandan President signed the anti-gay bill into law, a newspaper in the country The Red Pepper newspaper today published 200 names of prominent gay men and women in Uganda. Amongst those listed includes a catholic priest, a rap artiste as well as a prominent gay rights activist, Pepe Julien Onziema.

The list which appeared with the title Exposed, has generated great concern as it appears as a way of witch-hunting the gay community in Uganda. The list contained the names of those that were already known to be gay as well as those who have led a private gay life.

This isn't the first time this will happen in Uganda. In 2011, a list of prominent gays in Uganda was released by a Ugandan tabloid in which the editor asked for them to be Hanged. This unfortunately led to the gruesome murder of one of the country's gay right activists, David Kato.

Pastor Kumuyi finally reinstates his son as Pastor After 7 months of suspension

7 months after suspending his son John Kumuyi for staging what the church termed 'an extravagant wedding' and the bride wearing make up and a fitted wedding dress at their June 2013 Jamaica wedding, (Read that here), Deeper Life General Overseer, Pastor William Kumuyi has re-instated his son as a pastor in the church.

Pastor Kumuyi and elders of the church forgave John and his wife and he has been reinstated back into the pastoral arm where he can also preach on the pulpit.

Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker Samuel Adesina dies

The current Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly Rt Hon Samuel Adesina has died. The Araromi Obu born politician, who has been off his parliamentary duty for months, died in the early hours of this morning February 25th after a long battle with cancer.

The late Adesina represented Odigbo constituency 11 in the State House and was a member of the Labour Party.

Deola is about bringing more of the essence of me into my clothing. Deola is very high-end, very bespoke. As Sanusi has indicated that he will be challenging his suspension in court, I will not make this piece about him and recent events surrounding him. Yes, I will cite some examples of double standards as regards the approach taken by some analysts, but in my view, the matter is now best left to the courts.
